Welcome to Mohomou Refugee School Web Site

Mohomou Refugee School located in Nzerekore, Guinea, West Africa, has about 2,000 students to date. Mostly, these students are the refugees from Liberia and Sierra and local Guineans. The school consists of Senior High and Junior High, has 800 students and 1,200 students respectively. Mathematics is the only subject taught at the school.

Mohomou Refugee School has been participating in the Letter Exchange Program held by RESPECT International since 2003. This program allows refugee students to communicate with non-refugee students (pen pals) around the world and build awareness and understanding of their refugee life. At Mohomou Refugee School, 70% of the students are very interested in having pen-pals and eager to contact the outside world.

Samuel Boateng is one of the volunteer teachers at Mohomou Refugee School and has been organizing activties to attract children on the street to come to school. Besides teaching and organizing activities, Samuel also writes letters to the public to seek for donations for school supplies and sports materials. Thanks to Samuel and the RESPECT International Coordinator - Marc Schaeffer, Mohomou Refugee School has built a partnership with Palo Community Schools, USA.

Click here to view the article published on the RESPECT e-zine about Palo Community Schools - Mohomou Refugee School Partnership. The teachers and students of Palo Community Schools had raised funds to buy school supplies and sport materials for the children at Mohomous Refugee School.
